Learn how to create a rain garden! Join us for one session or the whole series. The first session provides enough information to get you started. Field and workshop sessions are offered for those who are ready to install a garden this year and want more in-depth instruction.

Learn why, where and how to create a rain garden in your yard. Be introduced to the first steps to assessing your own site. Get inspired by the variety of beautiful rain gardens already in your community!
II) RAIN GARDEN FIELD SESSION: DRAINAGE AND SOILS Date: Thursday, April 15 Time: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Fee: $5 Register and prepay by April 8. Location: To Be Announced Pre-requisite: Rain Garden classroom session
The “engineering” aspects of creating a rain garden can actually be fun. Join us at a private home to work through a real-life situation. We’ll analyze the site, determine the drainage area, assess the soil and test for infiltration. Come away prepared to do this in your own yard!
III) RAIN GARDEN DESIGN WORKSHOP: GARDEN LAYOUT & PLANT DESIGN Date: Thursday, April 29 Time: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Fee: $5 Register and prepay by April 22. Location: Maplewood Nature Center, 2659 East 7th Street, Maplewood 55119 Pre-requisite: Rain Garden classroom and Field session: Drainage and Soils
Shawn Tracy, a landscape ecologist offers creative landscaping design ideas to inspire you to develop your own plans. Work on your rain garden design with help from instructors and Master Gardeners, using the information gathered in your site assessment. Note: Participants need to bring their site base map and results of soil infiltration test.
IV) RAIN GARDEN CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOP Date: Thursday, May 6 Time: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Fee: $5 Register and prepay by April 29 Location: To Be Announced We’ll visit several rain gardens to discuss methods and challenges in rain garden design and construction. Learn how to convey water to the rain garden, the use of soil amendments, retaining walls, trench drains and tiered rain gardens.

From I-94 take Century Ave. exit north, and travel 1 1/4 miles to E. 7th Street. Turn left on E. 7th St. at the Maplewood Nture Center sign.
From I-694 take 10th St. exit, travel west 1 1/4 miles to Century Ave. Turn right on Century Ave. and proceed for one block. Turn left on East 7th Street at Maplewood Nature Center sign.
From Hwy 36 Take Century Ave. South 3.6 miles to E. 7th St. Turn right on E. 7th St. at the Maplewood Nture Center sign.
