Linking Citizens and Cities for Sustainable Communities
for 500 volunteers from neighborhoods, congregations & schools
Goals 1. Support volunteers to green their neighborhood, congregation, school or businesses – with project tool kits, free materials, lawn signs a resource guide and speaker lists
Support citizens to partner with their city to enact sustainable local policies - through becoming a MN Green Step City, eco-municipality or transition community and sustainability indicators.
Support citizens to advocate for wise state policies to secure a sustainable shared future.
Workshops
· Neighborhood Energy Efficiency and Composting Projects – Macalester Groveland, Eureka Recycling, Metro Clean Energy Resource Teams
· Emerald Ash Borer and Healthy Urban Forests – Learn how your neighborhood can do an inventory of Ash Trees and find funding plant new diverse species for shade, food production and water quality. Barb Spears Hamline Midway, John Uban, Bonestroo, Ken Holman, MN DNR
· Creating safe, welcoming streets /sidewalks for All Complete Streets - Bike Walk Ambassadors, Transit for Livable Communities
· Blue Thumb gardening, rain barrels and rain gardens for water quality – Friends of the Mississippi, Master Gardeners, Do it Green MN
· Global Sufficiency Network/ Dual Currencies – Joel Hodroff and Jennifer Kochevar – Global Sufficiency Network
· Launching a Transition Town initiative in your community. Pat Benson, Transition Northfield, Jon Freise, Transition Twin Cities
· Community Gardening and Community Food Security – Gardening Matters
